Peak Of Summer

Peak of Summer

We all love that summertime shine, but once it hits its peak, we start to experience the effects that aren’t so glamorous. Whether it's sunburns, breakouts, uncontrollable sweat, painful sunburns, dry hair, or all of the above, I’m here to share some tips on how to combat these effects!

Beat The Heat - Summer Tips

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is my answer to just about everything. It is the number one step in achieving glowing skin and overall better health! Staying hydrated is especially important during the summer months because an increase in sweat, which means the quicker your body dehydrates. Keep a water bottle by you at all times and drink, drink, drink! Spice it up by purchasing a fun water bottle, or adding cucumber, lemons, and mint into your water.

Layer On The Sunscreen

This is another answer of mine to just about everything...Sunscreen! While you should wear sunscreen every day, it’s most important in the summer when the UV rays are their strongest. Applying sunscreen is a crucial step to combat overexposure to the sun and risk health concerns such as sunburns, premature aging, skin cancer, wrinkles, dark spots, and more. See my blog on all things sunscreen here!

Healing Sunburns

I’m all about natural remedies when it comes to just about everything, but especially healing sunburns! Aloe Vera is great, but it's most effective when the juice comes from the leaf itself. Slit open an aloe leaf and use a spoon to extract the liquid from the inside before applying it to the burned area.

Pro tip: Cool it in the fridge pre-application! Lavender essential oil is also a great remedy that many people don’t know of! It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can help soothe and repair a burn. Plus it helps you relax and smells amazing. Win-Win. Of course, I have to add, drinking a lot of water will help quicken the healing process.

How To Combat Sweat

Sweating and summer typically go hand-in-hand. However, it doesn’t have to be as bad as you think (or experienced). Some tips and tricks - Apply deodorant before bed. The drop in your body's temperature at night can better help deodorant do its job during the day. Overnight, you're calm, cool, and dry, so a much higher percentage of deodorant will be absorbed. Simply reapply in the morning and go about your day! This may seem obvious but wear breathable clothes. Avoid overheating your body with heavy layers or fabrics. I also carry a mini portable fan and cool down spray to feel refreshed.

Hair Tips

Our hair is extremely sensitive to heat, just like our skin. To maintain healthy and shiny hair, avoid overwashing your hair. I know this is hard, especially when you feel like you’re constantly sweating, but overwashing will strip your hair from its natural oils, which will actually result in increased oil production. However, if you’re swimming in chlorine, protect your hair from the chemicals by rinsing your hair with clean water before and after taking a swim! I also recommend avoiding hot tools and doing a hair mask once a week. My favorite nourishing mask is Olaplex No. 8.

Stay cool my friends! Don’t forget to protect your beautiful skin from the sun while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. I love to hear what works for you so shoot us a DM on Instagram with any additional tips and tricks!
